Are You Attending PyCon, or Orbiting It?

PyCon US needs a favour. A very specific one.

I don’t usually write posts like this. But I need to.

I’m on the PSF board. That means I help make decisions about how we spend money, manage risk, and keep the infrastructure running that supports the global Python community.

We’re still working through the financial situation the PSF has been navigating since last year.

The PSF published a post: PyCon US 2026: Why we’re asking you to think about your hotel reservation today with more detail about the situation and what it means for PyCon US this year. If you read it, you’ll understand why hotel bookings this year matter more than almost anything else in keeping PyCon US stable and accessible.

Python is for Everyone: Inside the PSF's D&I Work Group

We are living in a moment where diversity and inclusion work is being actively undermined. From policy changes to corporate rollbacks, the gains we’ve fought for are being questioned and dismantled. Having lived in different countries and been part of many diverse communities, I’ve seen firsthand what happens when people feel excluded from spaces they want to be part of. As the chair of the Python Software Foundation’s Diversity & Inclusion Work Group for the past two years, I want to share what we’ve been doing, why it matters, and the incredible people making it happen.

One Event at a Time: Funding Your Community the Realistic Way

When the news of PSF Grants Program pause was published, it hit hard. It was tough for us. We felt it both as members of the community and as PSF Board members. The concerns that followed were real and expected. Many organizers began asking how they could move forward with their events. That worry is valid.

In a post I shared earlier, I spoke about my concerns around AI companies drifting away from the community. It was written before the grants issue was brought to the board. Now, we’re here.

Is AI Leaving the Python Community Behind?

I just returned from EuroPython. It was my first time attending, and honestly, one of the best PyCons I’ve been to. Big shoutout to organisers!

During the event, I joined a Community Organisers Open Space. Python event organisers came together to share their experiences. One issue came up again and again: sponsorship. While the PSF(Python Software Foundation) offers grants to support events, those grants are made possible by funding from other sponsors. It is not really a sponsor but rather a financial aid for events.

Another Great PyCon

I might be the last to leave Pittsburgh. PyCon US ended days ago, but my suitcase is still half-open, like a stubborn clam refusing to let go of its pearl. Every year, this conference feels less like a tech event and more like a reunion—part code, part campfire.

Ned Batchelder said it best: it feels like a summer camp. You hang out with old friends and meet some new friends. Elaine Wong, this year’s conference chair, curated a full runway of t-shirts knowing she’d be lit by stage lights. Loren, now Deputy Executive Director, brought out her full-color jumpsuit artillery.

Finally. It is done.

Ever set out to build something perfect, only to end up building nothing at all? That was me. And this website.

Since 2023, I’ve been wanting to update it. But life involves—family, work, community. Each day packed, each hour taken. The site? It became something called “later.”

I also wanted a blog. Since joining the Python Software Foundation board, I’ve felt it’s important to have a place to share thoughts beyond a chat window. Writing isn’t my superpower, but I like doing it. Just slow. Very slow. And I reflect a lot. The what-ifs. I hit backspace so often it’s practically cardio.

How to give Positive Criticism

How can we give positive criticism without discouraging volunteers and co-workers?

We all need feedback to improve

In the open source world, sharing knowledge is the key to learning and growing the community. Giving positive compliments are great. People love:

“Great job!” , “ Thank you for your time!”, “ This is incredible!”.

After all, open source contributors are all volunteers and we want to encourage them to contribute more often. But what if we see another solution that can simplify the code to make it more efficient? How do we convey the message so as not to discourage new contributors?
